Century Coke Co. 9/25/1938
Here's a look at old aerial photographs from the late 1930's of the Dunlap Creek branch of the Monongahela Railway (Connellsville &
Monongahela Railway). This like was abandoned in the 1970's, but it was hopping back then.
Simpson Tunnel 9/25/1938. Note the patch town on top of the hill, it does not exist today. Remains of the beehive coke ovens do, which
was the Etna Connellsville Coke Works' Garwood Works.
Allison 9/25/1938. Allison #1 works are East of the creek, and #2 is west. Both were operated by W.J. Rainey, Inc.
There is just too much going on in this to break apart, so click on the image to embiggen it. I
marked up things I am reasonably certain I have identified from a map in a great book on the
Monongahela Railway that I have. Not pictured are the abandoned Brier Hill Works on the
abandoned line running East, and Three Townships Coal Company, and Ralph Works (H.C.
Frick Coke Co.) further down the Lilly Run branch.
Ditto this one, click to embiggen. This picture illustrates H.C. Frick Coke company's Filbert
works, just north of the Los Phos branch, which features: Struthers Coal & Coke Co.
Fairbank Works, Connellsville Central Coke Co.'s Herbert works, and Republic Steel Corp.'s
Searight Works. Further down the low phos branch (not pictured) are the Prospect Coal &
Coke Co.'s Solon works, H.C. Frick Coke Co.'s Dearth works, Stern Coal & Coke Co.'s
Eleanor Works, and Connellsville Central Coke Co.'s Low Phos Works.
